Social Media: How Often & When to Post  

As a marketing agency, specializing in social media marketing, one of the most popular questions we get time and time again from our clients is, “How often should I post to social media?”  

While many people are looking for a magic formula to solve their social media challenges, it’s important to understand there is so much more to a successful social media strategy than just posting the optimal number of times. Post too much and you may overwhelm your followers, but not posting enough could leave you forgotten. So, when it comes to posting on your feed how much is too much and how much is too little?  

As we have said before social media accounts are not one size fits all, but we have gathered some general information to use a starting point. Read more below to find how frequently you should be posting to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn to optimize your reach without annoying your followers.  

 

Instagram  

It is generally recommended to post to your Instagram feed 2-3 times per week, and no more than 1x per day. Stories can be posted more frequently. 

  • Best times: Tuesday 11 a.m.–2 p.m., Monday through Friday 11 a.m. 
  • Best day: Tuesday 
  • Worst day: Sunday 

 

Facebook 

It is generally recommended to post 1 time per day, and no more than 2 times per day. 

  • Best times: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m.–1 p.m. 
  • Best days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 
  • Worst day: Saturday 

 

Twitter  

It is generally recommended to post 1-2 times per day, and no more than 3-5 times per day. 

  • Best times: Wednesday 9 a.m.– 3 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 9–11 a.m. 
  • Best day: Wednesday 
  • Worst day: Saturday 

 

LinkedIn  

It is generally recommended to post at least once a day, and no more than 5x per day. 

  • Best times: Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m.–noon 
  • Best days: Tuesday and Wednesday 
  • Worst day: Sunday
