The Holiday Season in Kansas City

The holiday season in Kansas City shines brightly with iconic holiday traditions. Kansas Citians embrace our city’s history, often creating memories with their families as they did as children. Piling into the car dressed in your pj’s to see the neighborhood lights or driving through one of the many professional light displays are a delight for all ages. We have compiled a short list of our favorite dazzling lights and shows and how we embrace the holiday spirit.

The Winter Magic Christmas light show is a drive-through display featuring one mile of lights set to upbeat holiday music. Make sure you find the hidden pickle! Proceeds benefit the KC Parks Improvement projects.

Christmas in the Park boasts 500,000 lights in a drive-through display at Longview Lake. Arrive early to avoid the crowd! This event is free, but they accept donations to benefit local charities.

The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is home to the Kansas City Ballet and Kansas City Symphony. The theatrical experience of The Nutcracker is brimming with holiday magic. This show runs from Dec 7 – Dec 24. The Kauffman is also home to the Kansas City Symphony, presenting two-holiday performances: Handel’s Messiah and Christmas Festival, Dec 9-11 and Dec 15-18.

Musical Theatre Heritage at The Crown Center features some of Kansas City’s most talented performers. MTH’s annual show, A Spectacular Christmas, enriches the holiday spirit with innovative arrangements of well-known classics.  While at The Crown Center, you might even get a glimpse of the big guy himself at Santa’s Gingerbread Station, find a unique gift, or enjoy one of the many free exhibits.

There are so many more traditions that make the holiday season in Kansas City so unique, but one we’d like to highlight is the spirit of giving back. If you can, donating to your favorite group or finding a new one will help all families in your area celebrate this holiday season. Give-back traditions are the true holiday spirit that Kansas Citians have embraced.  The holiday season in Kansas City is a time for family, friends, and creating memories.

Happy Holidays from YCS Marketing.
