All Our Favorite Holidays are Coming Up, But When Do You Start Decorating
Do you ever wonder when to decorate for your favorite holiday or season? Is it too early to start decorating for Christmas…in September? Maybe September is pushing the holiday season a little too early for some, and for others, if embracing it makes you feel festive and happy – go for it! With that said, there is a general rule of thumb for keeping your home’s décor festive each season. We thought it would be fun to ask a few of our YCS Marketing staff when they decorate for our favorite holidays.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving decorations are generally warm and seasonal, emphasizing the autumn ambiance rather than being tied to a specific day. Many people keep their fall decorations up from late October through November, but all the spooky decorations are stored away after Halloween. Pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, and the comforting scents of pumpkin spice and nutmeg signify the change of seasons.
YCS Marketing’s Director of Marketing, Robin Gearheart, embraced the season’s spirit last year by “decorating my new tree in autumn hues and fall ornaments when it arrived, with Thanksgiving in mind. The result was so charming that I later transformed it with my Christmas decor in December, allowing me to enjoy its beauty for longer.”
Christmas
If there is an “official kickoff” for Christmas decorating, it’s the day after Thanksgiving. Some like to wait until December, but many people jump into holiday cheer when the turkey leftovers are put away. Around this time, you’ll see everything from front yard displays to twinkling lights to fresh-cut Christmas trees tied to the tops of vehicles.
YCS Marketing’s President and CEO, Sid Shugart’s favorite holiday season is Christmas. “Our house gets into the festive spirit before Thanksgiving, decorating the inside and outside of our home to become a winter wonderland. The finishing touches, including the Christmas tree, are always done the weekend after Thanksgiving. We like to clean up our Christmas decorations before the New Year for a fresh start in January.”
New Year’s
Many Christmas decorations remain up through New Year’s, but some people enhance their festive displays with additional touches like sparkles, clocks, and “Happy New Year” signs. Many individuals wait until after the first week of January to take everything down and transition to winter decorations.
There are no hard and fast rules when decorating for your favorite holidays; follow your feelings and enjoy the upcoming holiday season.
